„Skinty Fia“ ist Fontaines DCs dritte Platte innerhalb von ebenso vielen Jahren. Umgangssprachlich als Schimpfwort verwendet, lässt sich der Titel aus dem Irischen ins Englische etwa mit „die Verdammnis des Hirsches“ übersetzen; die Schreibweise wurde stark anglisiert, und die Bedeutung hat sich über Generationen hinweg verwässert. Teils bittersüße Romanze, teils düsterer politischer Triumph – die Songs sind letztlich ein Liebesbrief über große Entfernungen, der eine zunehmend privatisierte Kultur beklagt, die Gefahr läuft, dem ausgestorbenen irischen Riesenhirsch zu erliegen.
